5th Week Relfection

In this week, we were introduced about the notion of teaching aids and its importance.

Teachers in school have to prepare the teaching aids first before the class begin. The teaching aids must be catchy and interesting so that teachers will be able to grasp the pupils' attention in the lesson. Through this, an effective learning can be achieved which will produce intellectual learners.

Well, there are some teaching aids that teachers can produce such as:

Flash Cards

Introduction

Flash cards are useful for drilling new letters, syllables, words, and other information. They are normally used in a classroom, but can also be used more informally.

Definition

A flash card is part of a set of cards on which are written items to be studied. They are “flashed” (shown quickly) one by one to a learner to elicit a quick response.

Uses

Here are some other uses for flash cards:

  • Use two matching sets of them with games such as How to play the Memory game .
  • Have learners practice tracing the characters on the cards with their fingers.

  • Make up your own games using the cards.
Features

Here are some features of flash cards:

  • Flash cards are sets of cards printed with information to be studied, such as

    • definitions
    • formulas
    • letters
    • multiplication tables
    • prefixes
    • syllables, or
    • words.

  • If there is an answer or solution to what appears on the front of the card, it is printed on the back so that the person showing the cards can see if the learner's answer is correct.

    Examples:
    • The front of a card shows a mathematics problem. The back shows the answer to the problem.
    • The front of a card shows a term to be defined. The back shows the definition.
  • Flash cards can be made from

    • index cards
    • cover or card stock, or
    • other heavy paper.

Poster

Introduction

A poster is an informative, often decorative way to attract attention to the information it contains.

Here are some ways to use posters in a literacy program:

  • To advertise events or products
  • To display information or instructions
  • To teach some kinds of information
Definition

A poster is a bill or placard usually displayed in a public place. It is often decorated with designs or illustrations.

Kinds
Here are some kinds of posters:
  • Posters you make yourself.
  • Ready-made posters from

    • business organizations
    • community development organizations
    • government offices
    • medical companies, or
    • tourist agencies.

4th Week Reflection

In school, the duty of teachers are to make sure that the students are fully provided with knowledge...

But how do we work with them to make sure that they are really understand in the lesson?

It is important to understand their characteristic before trying to tackle their problems. Some of their characteristic would be:-

- Ability to grasp meaning
Children are not born as a ‘blank slate’ but they are capable to pick up the ‘meaning’ of thing as they progress through experience. So teachers should present their lesson by acknowledging this fact and prepare it in a more inviting way.

- Children’s creative use of limited language resources
children are creative in creating and using limited language resources. Children will simply ‘experiment’ the language that they might familiar when they are talking. Even though sometimes it seems ‘ungrammatically’ correct the way children speak, but, this is a fundamental phenomenon for language development.

- Children’s instinct for play and fun
Teachers should add the elements of fun and games in eliciting knowledge from children. Since children love fun, teacher should conduct a game that they are using English. Thus, this ultimately will make them learn indirectly the intended objectives of the lesson. So, teacher should be creative in exploiting the children instinct so that through games, children are motivated to learn English

- The role of Imagination
Children have no limitation on their creativity in imagination. Knowing this fact, teachers should try to make use of it and trigger their imagination. Make lesson as more than just giving input but something that they would have to think about and ponder.

3rd Week Reflection

We cannot deny that song is apart of our lives. Without song, the world will be silent and nothing. Beside that, song also plays an important role in order to make our lives happening and interesting. So today in Resources class, we were assigned to not only to find a song and its lyrics and its video clip but we were also asked to make a documentation of it using PowerPoint.

Beside that, we were also learned how to print screen and paste on the Microsoft Power Point. Well, I didn't notice that it would be an easier way to prepare my teaching aids in school.

In addition, we were also introduced to the Moyea Downloader Software. This software is useful especially to download video clip from youtube. This is because it faster and well-organised rather than other software such as youtube downloader. Besides, this software also can allow us to convert the files into any formats that we prefer.

In the end, this class had successfully showed to us the better way to download the video clip from youtube by using Moyea Downloader. Therefore, from this class we also knew how to print screen and paste to Microsoft Power Point.

Second Week Reflection

The second week of this course Pn. Foziah enlightening us about the assignments that we are going to do. First of all, we have to create a blog and update it every week so that she can observe us what we have learned from her lesson. It is 20% marks. I am still new regarding the blog thing and I don't have any knowledge how to create and update the blog. So for this course, by hook or by crook i have to learn it. Besides, we also have to pay a visit to other's blog and give a comment if necessary so that we can learn each other better.

First Week Reflection

This is the first day I am in UM. Honestly, I don't know what exactly this course all about. After the explanation from Pn. Foziah, I realized that this course is to expose us on how to use and develop the teaching resource by using the technology.

In fact, this course also reminds me when I was in UK where all the primary schools using the high technology in the teaching and learning process. For example, they are using the smart board and mini laptop for the pupils to learn. I am surprised and I noticed that this implementation is not achieved yet in our country. I hope by doing this course, I will be able to use the knowledge and skills that I will learn in order to achieve the goal of National Philosophy Education effectively.
